Geronto project

The Geronto project is a student project designed in November 2010, the activity of which is aimed at the users of homes for the elderly and infirm. The main goal of the project is to improve the health care of the elderly and infirm and to develop awareness of the role of oral health in the overall quality of life.

The project has a research and volunteer component. As part of the activities, educational lectures on oral hygiene are held and preventive examinations of the oral cavity are carried out. Also, the participants are educated how to simply perform an examination of their own oral cavity in order to prevent oral cancer, which often affects the elderly population. In addition, short anonymous questionnaires conducted on the oral health of the elderly population and its connection with systemic diseases. The project itself is very educational, but also entertaining in nature, and for many younger students it is also the first opportunity to meet a patient.
