Student Sections

“Student Sections” is a professional project that brings together students of all ages who are eager to study extracurriculary in a certain branch of dentistry. The goal is to expand our knowledge and encourage each other in learning and research, but also to meet new people, socialize and have fun. “Student sections” consist of nine sections and you can read the description of each one of them below. In addition to webinars and workshops that each section organizes during the year, members of the student sections participate in the organization of our biggest project, the “Dental Medicine Student Symposium”, a two-day professional symposium attended by 150 students from our faculty and 150 students from other faculties from the region.

We invite all those interested to contact the head of the section they want to join and join our project.

BASIC SCIENCES

The basic sciences section is intended for everyone, and is great for juniors who want to get involved in some extracurricular activities at the university. Of course, older students who want to share their experiences and knowledge with younger students are always welcome.

The section is a little different from the others because it is not based on a specific part of dentistry. We don’t like to limit ourselves, but don’t think that we only deal with chemistry, histology or pharmacology. The topics we cover are always related to dentistry and cover all branches of dentistry, but we cover the topics in such a way that they are accessible to all generations. We usually hold our meetings in a coffee shop, and we design them as a combination of lectures and discussions on a topic for which we all prepare in advance. Let’s get together and share experiences or anecdotes from class, and then throw in some team building to make everything more fun. You are welcome regardless of the year of study, you will learn something and get to know other colleagues.

If you want to join the section, contact the leader, Sven Gojsović, e-mail: sgojsovic@sfzg.hr

PAEDIATRIC DENTISTRY

The Student Section of Paediatric Dentistry is looking for new members, mostly the ones who have forgotten what is like to be a child, or for those, who still feel like one. As the basic Croatian catchword says: “The young shall inherit the world! ” we are ready to welcome boys and girls of any student year. Usually, our meetings are casual coffee/ beer dates incorporated whit seminars, workshops, project planning and lectures by renowned experts in pediatric dentistry. But, most importantly, it’s a good opportunity to gain new friendships.

For all information, you can contact the section leader – Mihaela Vrebac via e-mail: mihaela.os161@gmail.com

RESTAURATIVE DENTAL MEDICINE AND ENDODONTICS

Meetings will be held every two weeks, and we will determine the exact day by agreement. We will deal with topics in interesting ways, either in the form of presentations or in the form of workshops. Sometimes some professors will share their knowledge with us. Of course, we will try to respect all wishes, suggestions and requests. Since restorative dental medicine and endodontics comprise a larger percentage of procedures that we will do in the office every day, it is great to learn something outside the curriculum and discover all kinds of tips and tricks that will help us in our work. Our goal is to learn something new with good company, share our knowledge with colleagues and make new acquaintances and friendships. We will never lack parties. I look forward to future meetings!

ORTHODONTICS

This Section is intended for anyone with an interest in orthodontics, regardless of previous knowledge. Although we know that orthodontics is a popular topic among specializations, we can only enroll in the subject in our fifth and sixth year of study. We therefore think that this section is a great choice for anyone who impatiently awaits learning something new, as well as for more experienced colleges who will be able to impart their wisdom and experiences to younger members.

Use this opportunity and join our section if you want to learn more about this field of dentistry, no matter on your prior knowledge or year of study. The section will be held every other week, at a time that is convenient for the majority of our members. We plan to present interesting topics in the form of lectures, and we hope to convey interesting topics through other forms of interaction that we will devise together. Aside from learning, our wish is to gather in good company with great energy.

ORAL MEDICINE

Although there is talk among students about oral medicine as complicated and difficult, at the section we will (try!) to break the stigma of oral medicine as such. How to act in the office when a patient comes to us with an undiagnosed oral disease, what are the dentist’s diagnostic options in that case, what exactly do our specialists do, presentation of rare and interesting cases and procedures with risky patients are just some of the topics. In addition, we will try to bring some guest lecturers, employees from our faculty.

THE SECTION IS NOT INTENDED JUST FOR OLDER STUDENTS!

Younger people are also welcome, whose prior knowledge we will adapt to.

PARODONTOLOGY

All of your friends keep asking you how to brush teeth properly, but you’re not sure about the answer? Do you want to find out how to prevent many of the problems that are being resolved on other departments? Would you like to learn how to motivate your patients to keep care of their teeth?

Are you intrigued by gummy smile, or do you maybe want to practice suturing, learn more about bone and gingiva or simply get ready for your exam?

Whatever is the reason, you will surely be a good fit for our section! We will meet every two weeks and talk about anything that comes to mind.No prior knowledge is needed, only willingness to learn! Contact me at: amrla@sfzg.hr

SECTION FOR ORAL SURGERY

If you are a person who is intrigued by just spoken words like: “surgery, scalpel, forceps, pean…”, you are in the right place. Namely, our section deals with topics that you will not hear in college (and those that you will hear if you want to raise your knowledge to a higher level) and we strive to be “in step” with the novelties that this incredible rapidly progressive technological era offers us. We are currently holding meetings online, due to the situation related to COVID-19, on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. – although we adapt to the needs of the majority. The topics we cover the most are related to oral surgery, but also new topics that interest any member – are always welcome! A relaxed atmosphere is an integral part of every meeting, because who likes a stiff lecture on Tuesday evening?! 😊

If you are interested, you can contact me on Facebook (Filipa Spehar) or by email at fspehar@sfzg.hr

PROSTHODONTICS

Student sections from dental prosthodontics are intended for all students willing to learn more (or repeat already acquired knowledge) from this field of our profession. We will be tackling different topics in the fields of both fixed and removable prosthodontics.

Topics include: tooth preparations, materials, implant prosthodontics, cementation procedures, combined prosthodontic work and other additional subjects ,outside of the curriculum, as well as interesting clinical cases.

All ideas and suggestions are welcome and most importantly there shouldnt’t be any shame as we are all here to learn.

Another important aim is to have fun and  meet other new people that will be your future professional colleagues.

Meetings are usually arranged once a week. Looking forward to seeing you!

DENTAL TRAUMATOLOGY

Student Section for Dental Traumatology is a newly established section that includes different areas of dental medicine, and is therefore intended for a wide range of students. Students of all years who want to improve their professional knowledge are welcome. At the weekly meetings, the lectures will cover the guidelines for approaching dental traumatic injuries and various clinical cases while also socializing in a relaxed atmosphere. Our evening meetings are mostly held in a cafe. After an introductory lecture comes a joint discussion about the topic. It is important that we socialize and at the same time improve our dental knowledge. Also, guest lectures by experts from various specialist areas of dental medicine are planned, of course focusing on dental traumatology.

If you want to join this section, I am available via my e-mail address lea.budak@hotmail.com

(Lea Budak). I look forward to meeting you soon!
